Moms birthday

Today is my moms birthday. I have been thinking about her all day. No cake ,no party but as a gift to her I want her to know that she was a wonderful mother. Today I have been remembering sitting in our basement ironing. She used to pay me to iron dads shirts. We would sit and visit and watch tv while I ironed and she folded laundry. I also remember her teaching me when I was very young how to match socks. She would sit me down with the dreaded sock box and I would try to get every sock to match. She didn't appreciate my creative matching at the bottom of the box as much as I did. But even as an adult I loved how she continued to teach me. Such love and understanding and honesty. I knew she would tell me if I was wrong or out of line. I really miss the sunday dinners or the invitations to dinner everytime we returned back into town. She knew that was a hard time for me to get a decent meal on the table and was always offering to help. I mostly miss "Just thought I would call and see if you were still alive" calls. In the end I was trying so hard to be strong for her and help her face what she was facing. I guess I never really faced it myself so every now and then I get to face little moments of saying goodbye for now. I love you and miss you more that I ever thought I would. Happy birthday mom! And thanks
